Theory Test Pro in partnership with Automatic for the People

I will help prepare you for the theory test. All learner drivers need to pass this test before being able to book a practical test.  I can help you with the theory test in a variety of ways, from recommending effective reading material, to providing you with mock online test papers to practice on.  I provide all my clients with access to Theory Test Pro, where you can practice theory tests and hazard perception clips.  You'll receive valuable tips and information during our practical sessions too..!

The theory test is divided into two parts:

  1. A multiple-choice test comprising 50 multiple-choice questions covering aspects of the Highway Code. The pass mark is 43.
  2. A hazard perception test consisting of a series of video clips of actual road hazards that need to be identified. The pass mark is 44. See video tutorial below.

Both of these parts will be taken at the same time and your result be given to you instantly.

Practical test

The Driving Standards Agency recommends that most learners take at least 45 hours of professional tuition lessons and at least 20 hours with friends and family.

The average number of lessons is currently 35 hours. As all learners are different, some will pass more quickly than others. The DSA also state, as an average, that you will need one and half hours professional tuition per year of age, eg- a 30 year old may need 45 hours tuition.

Your driving test will start with an eyesight check and some vehicle safety questions, known as Show Me/ Tell Me questions. The driving part of your test will last about 40 minutes. Throughout the test your examiner will be looking for an overall safe standard of driving, including when you are carrying out the set exercises. You can make up to 15 driving faults and still pass the test (16 or more results in failure). However, if you commit one serious or dangerous fault you will fail the test.
